We have a cast balcony on our house from -45. There have previously been some cracks and some pieces of the concrete are missing on the underside, and last night more pieces fell off.
What should I do about it? Is it possible to repair it so it stays intact, or should I tear it down and build it up in wood instead?
There is a hole straight through the floor now, so it should be possible to form underneath and pour in from above, the question is if it will hold?
The rebar rusts and cracks the concrete, after which pieces fall off.
So it might help to review how rain and moisture are directed away.
The fact that it "collapses" at the outer edge of the balcony doesn't necessarily mean it's equally bad closer to the wall.
Tear down the whole thing so no one gets hurt...maybe save any existing reinforcement for now...then decide whether to cast a new one or build it in wood...
The moisture barrier has done its job on the balcony, so without replacing it, there's no point in doing anything. However, it looks quite advanced, so demolition is probably what's left.
