Hello hello!
My little 32 sqm studio has just been converted into a condominium after being a rental (built in 1956) for what feels like forever. I quickly decided to tear out the old built-in wardrobes in the hallway and into the kitchen, and then I started thinking about opening up and trying to get a better floor plan.
I've received all the available drawings of the building (can't find any info about load-bearing walls, etc.) and after consulting with many friends (mostly "hobby carpenters"), I tore down the wall in the hallway with a handy friend. We saved a number of centimeters all around and then framed the opening. (The wall was made of plaster and lightweight concrete blocks).
Afterward, I've read in several places that the condominium association needs to approve things like this. What should I do? Should I ignore it or ask for permission afterward? (The hole I made is about 1 meter + the opening that already existed where I opened up more towards the ceiling)...
I'm also considering opening up into the kitchen/kitchenette and keeping a small part of the wall centered in the middle to make a feature wall. That wall is also made of plaster and lightweight concrete. Could it still be load-bearing even though it's so thin? Because it contains electrical wiring, I thought about removing what I can and then hiring a construction company + electrician to finish it. Should I ask the association about this as well or just "renovate away?" :blushing:
