Hello!

I’ve moved into an older house where an "arch" or whatever you might call it (see picture) separates the living room from the dining room. For future renovation and a desire for an open floor plan between these two rooms, I want to tear it down.

However, I’m unsure if it’s load-bearing in any way or not. And how could it look nice if that’s the case?

  • Archway dividing living room and dining area with parquet flooring, ceiling light, and visible table with chairs and decorative items.
It probably depends entirely on how the wall looked before and if there's a beam in that piece of wall above the arch. With the short span, I don't think there's any danger, but one should still thoroughly investigate the matter.

Welcome to Byggahus!

A floor plan that also shows the floor above is a good help, as well as basic facts about the house. Not least the year of construction.

Spontaneous thought considering where the window is located, it is the heart wall and therefore likely load-bearing.

Hello and thank you :)

The house is dated to 1909. Of course, I will arrange a floor plan. I will get back to you with that tomorrow. Thank you for your help.
