We are planning to extend our house from 1930, which originally had a wooden facade but today has a brick facade. The extension will be constructed in wood, so the plan is to remove the brick wall facing the new section. As shown in the picture, a smaller portion of the brick closest to the corners will be preserved, but the rest will be removed to allow for more living space.
My first question is how big the risk is that the remaining brick walls might collapse when one side is removed. The carpenter has suggested anchoring the remaining brick at the corners with a structure that goes through the brick and into the studs behind.
My second question is therefore if anyone has tips on an appropriate construction or method to securely attach and stabilize the brick corners.
To avoid "unnecessary" responses, I can add that it's not an option to remove all the brick, and we've already maximized the extension, so it's also not possible to retain the entire wall and instead extend the addition.
