Tearing down the walls to get cc30 studs in the bathroom for tiles. The house was built in 68/69. There's a bit of a "use what you have" approach to the whole build, I've noticed the more I tear down and break. Not really wrong, but for *****'s sake, so many nails. The carpenter must have been paid based on how many and how thick the nails he drove in.

Never experienced anything like it. Molding you're trying to pry off can have 10 nails per meter, sometimes more. And at all angles, so it's impossible to pry off without cracking. At first, I thought I might reuse some of the molding, but that's not possible.
I can see now that behind the plank wall (made of reused sawn pine boards and coarse beadboard) which is about cc100, there's tar paper where we lay plastic today, i.e., directly against the insulation. My question now is, should I add an additional vapor barrier if I add 10 cm of insulation, because tar paper isn't entirely diffusion-tight in that way?? Also, who knows how well it's done. My guess is that it was put up as extra windproofing, but as I said, that's just a guess. Plastic in the walls became more common a few years later, in the early '70s.
Has anyone encountered this before? Tar paper for roofing in the wall was something new for me.
