Hello!

We are currently in the process of planning the renovation of our house. What we are planning is to convert an unfinished attic in the house.

When we demolished a load-bearing wall, a glulam beam was installed instead. Now that we are going to finish the upper floor, we need to upgrade the glulam beam to handle the increased load, but the house is old and thus has low ceiling height.

We have received help with the sizing of the new glulam beam, but the problem is that I then cannot stand upright under it... and it would be nice to avoid installing a support in the middle.

If we were to replace and install a steel beam (HE or I), what would a 4.5m long glulam beam 115x405 correspond to?

Best regards, Johan

Don't know what it corresponds to, but I know it's going to be very heavy. Maybe won't be able to get it in manually. Take this into account.
