Hello!

Renovating the kitchen and need to make a new hole to the attic to connect the kitchen fan to the chimney. The new hole needs to be shifted to the right and towards the chimney compared to today (first image). So, I need to cut the middle beam, and I am worried about whether the load-bearing capacity will be affected enough to cause problems?

Could I compensate for this by adding a fourth beam that connects 1 and 2 according to image 2?

Or any other wise suggestion?!

Grateful for knowledgeable input ;-)

It looks like two beams spliced together using two short studs, one on each side. Then someone has cut through the splice closest to the camera to create an opening. This is already a weakening. Your suggestion is not optimal. The best is to restore the nearest splice stud and make the opening so that it doesn't need to go through a stud. There may be other solutions, but it's difficult to see without a drawing that shows the whole picture better.
