Hello

I am in the process of replacing a load-bearing wall with a glulam beam and glulam posts. Moderate span and length and relatively small loads. The plan was to secure the beam with a support before the posts are installed. One post will be inside an external wall directly on the sill.

But then a thought came up - if I buy a support, place it directly on the sill, screw it upwards with the beam on top. Then continue as planned with the glulam post on the other side and then leave the support in the external wall. Does anyone see any obstacles? The support is strong enough. This procedure would make the work easier as it is difficult to cut the post exactly to get the right pressure against the beam and difficult to fit it as its lower end is under the floor.

Grateful for any opinions

You might be able to lift the beam and the structure above a few mm more than it should be in the final result. To make it easier to insert the post. Depending on the circumstances, small cabin, no problem, large three-story house worse..

Or put a block on the sill, so you can cut the glulam post a bit shorter and to the right length, a bit easier, doesn't show anyway.
 
Thanks for the tips. I'm on board with lifting the beam. I'm hesitant about the block since the sill is just over 20 cm below the floor, which makes it still difficult to place the beam due to the angle. I want to make the post slightly longer to ensure that the beam is flush against the ceiling.
 
Ok, didn't know it was 20cm...
 
Not easy to know. I think in this case it would be best to cut the post to the right length (as well as possible) and then lift the roof slightly - then slide in the beam. Another option could be to use wedges. Either between the post and the beam or between the beam and the roof. Any thoughts on that?
