Substrate for decking.

I need to replace the decking around my pool, 4x8m, just over a meter wide. The existing undersurface, pressure-treated wood, has rotted, and the decking is also starting to deteriorate. Is there something more durable than pressure-treated wood that can be screwed into, like beams?

Composite. Lasts longer and is also more comfortable to walk on.

I prefer to have wooden decking, can composite work as a base?

A strip of cardboard on top of the rules so they don't get as wet. Something underneath that doesn't transport moisture up into the rule, if they are in contact with the ground/concrete slabs or similar. Allowing them to dry and then painting, oiling, glazing, or tar works as additional protection. At least if it’s a good product for the purpose.

Today, there is an underpinning of pressure-treated timber directly on sandy, permeable soil. Probably 8-10 years old.

A good start is not to have the wood directly on the ground. Either stone slabs, which are probably the easiest, or posts. But there should also be tar paper in between.
