Hello

I am considering trying to cast a sink in concrete, mainly to see if I can manage to do it myself.
Now to the question, how do you achieve a nice and hygienic surface on the concrete? Should I sand it in a particular way or treat it with some kind of product? It should be easy to clean but still retain the concrete appearance.

Is it advisable to use some type of reinforced concrete?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I was also considering casting a concrete sink but have changed my mind and will now just cast a countertop and inset a sink. The reason I changed my mind is that it would probably be difficult to keep the surface clean since it's quite rough compared to a porcelain sink.

I plan to treat the concrete with water glass. I've started a test where I have three different concrete mixtures. One with pure concrete, the second with water glass mixed into the concrete, and the third has been treated after curing. I will place these three concrete pieces in the shower to see how quickly they get dirty and how easy they are to keep clean.

Do you mean fiber-reinforced concrete?

Hello.

It will be interesting to read about how your test goes.
It should be possible to get a nice surface; betong design has sinks, but when you look at the price, it's not feasible.

Exactly, it was fiber-reinforced concrete I meant.

Image search "concrete sink" and you'll find lots of beautiful pictures of concrete sinks along with plenty of information. Here are some of my favorites.

  • Two square concrete sinks with silver faucets on a dark countertop, beneath two mirrors with wall-mounted lights.
  • A long, rectangular concrete sink with two faucets, featuring a rustic design and set against a tiled backsplash.
