Stuck in concrete wall, hammer drill too weak?

Hello,

I'm building an interior wall now and trying to drill into the ceiling with a hammer drill. The ceiling is made of concrete and I'm getting a maximum of 1 cm in... then it stops.

The drill rotates (I have a 500w Bosch hammer drill) and a little stone hisses out when you try, but nothing happens in terms of depth achieved. I bought a concrete screw for 60 SEK from Piranha at Clas Ohlson, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that. What can be done? Is the hammer drill too weak?

Doesn't seem so, but the screw gets very hot (parts of it turn red). I don't see any metal shavings on the screw when it comes out. Is it supposed to be this difficult to drill into concrete?

If the reinforcement bar is only 1cm in, you should be able to see a metallic surface in the drill hole...

Flashlight (no, actually, I meant flashlight but read phone) can be good for shining...

You write screw but mean drill I assume? Because there are concrete screws too but you have to pre-drill for them.

Have you selected the hammer mode on the machine? And the correct rotation direction?
My Bosch rotary hammer has so far chewed through all concrete like it was styrofoam ...

I actually think I see a metallic surface, even though it's at the edge of the hole and just where it ends.
What do I do now, test a bit next to it? If so, how far should I go?

I also need to fill the other hole now that will remain, how do I do that easiest?

No, I actually chose the setting symbolized by a "screw," it shook a hell of a lot when I chose the hammer setting and tested. Should it be the hammer setting? It's the right direction anyway.

Yes, the hammer mode is what's needed when you're drilling into concrete. Then I guess you have an impact drill and not a hammer drill. I recognize that from when I started renovating at home for the first time. You press on like crazy, sweating hard, and the only thing that happens is the drill gets hot and in the worst case, gets destroyed.

Since then, I've gotten a proper hammer drill, and it makes a huge difference. Now it doesn't require much effort to drill even in the harder walls.

Yes, the hammer mode is what you need when drilling in concrete. Then I guess you have an impact drill and not a rotary hammer. I recognize that when I started renovating at home for the first time. You press hard and sweat like crazy, but all that happens is the drill gets hot and at worst gets damaged.

Since then, I have gotten a proper rotary hammer and it makes a huge difference. Now it takes very little effort to drill even in the harder walls.
