I have a brick wall in the kitchen where I want to put up wall cabinets, but since the wall is not completely even, I need to plaster it first (where the cabinets will sit even, the rest of the wall will have visible bricks) so now to my question...
How do you check if the wall is straight with a spirit level?
When you place it on, for example, a table, you can quickly see if it's straight, but how do you place the spirit level against the wall to see if the wall is straight? I've tried in every possible way but failed... is it just me that's so dumb?

If it is the wall surface that you want to be even for mounting the cabinets, I would use a straight ledger or a "straightedge" (I don't know what it's called, but there are straight "boards" made of aluminum or similar) that preferably is as long as the cabinet section. I would settle for a ledger that is straight enough.
There are also long spirit levels, those work too.

Yes, that's right... how silly of me not to think of using a long and straight ruler. I'll just try to get it as straight as possible because the brick that's there is quite uneven. My idea is to get the brick as straight as possible and then fill it in to mount the cabinets. If there happens to be a small gap somewhere, one could maybe seal it with the same seal as between the bricks, so hopefully it won't look too bad.
Thanks for the help, sometimes I'm dumber than usual.
