I'm wondering if there's someone who can help me with a problem. My problem is when one, as an amateur, listens to people who you think know building construction, but it turns out to be completely wrong!

Well, nothing serious has happened yet, but...

In the living room ceiling leading to the upper floor, glulam beams (42x180mm) with cc 600mm have been installed, and now after a few weeks, the joists have started to sag. The room's dimensions are 6.0m x 3.95m

And now when I look around a bit, I realize that there should have been a completely different dimension for the joists.

My idea is to lay in 2 steel beams, crosswise, as support beams for relief. They should be placed at 2.0m and 2.4m.

Is there anyone who can give some advice and tips on this?

For example, the dimension of the steel beam?

What span would the steel beams have?
6 m or 3.95 m?

The beams of 6 meters are supported by 1 steel beam after 2m and the next after 2.4m.
 
Assume that you then have to count on the steel beams taking the entire load. I don't think you can manage to combine wood + steel and get a calculation on the dimensions for that?
 
There was talk about some steel beams being screwed onto existing studs to reinforce them in a thread here a while ago.
It was seen in one of those dear construction defect shows, though I can't remember which one.
It seems spontaneously more sensible to me, I think.

steel beams that you screw onto existing joists seems good, but since I have already insulated-plastered-furred, it still feels like it might be "easier" to lift up the existing ones with cross beams.
But, I will look up the thread, might be a good idea anyway.
 
Do you have space for it? It does lower the ceiling height quite a bit with an underlying steel beam.
 
Yes, the height of the ceiling will be lowered, but I have accounted for that in the calculations. The house is so old that there is no standard height in this house anyway :)
