Hello!

Here, you can hit your head on the edge of the ceiling at the bottom step if you're not careful. The ceiling height is only 2.15 meters on the lower floor.

Do you think it would be realistic to properly "bevel" the corner with some carpentry, or can you be sure to immediately run into a beam?

  • Low ceiling above staircase with a marked corner, posing a head bump risk. Discussion about the feasibility of corner modification for safety.
  • Staircase with low ceiling height at the bottom step, potential head bump area highlighted in red, suggesting need for modification or inspection.

You can never be sure, but you should probably assume that you will and need to provide support.

If it had been easy to bevel/move it, it would probably have been built that way from the beginning, don't you think?

The best answer is if you open it up and can see how it is built... preferably making a hole large enough to see the construction in the circled area... (easier to restore than the roof)
View of a stairwell with a red circle around a section of the wall above the stairs, indicating a suggested area for inspection or modification.
Whether it is feasible then depends entirely on how the joist is dimensioned...

Thank you both. Yes, it's probably hard to know in advance, it's just a matter of opening up to get the answer...
