I am going to build a staircase between our patio and a type of dock that leads to our sauna.
The planned length is 330cm and the height between the dock and the top edge of the patio beam is 120cm.
I will build three stringers for a 120cm wide staircase.
I plan to use 45x145 beams and then cut wedges to attach.
How do I calculate the shape of the wedges? I was thinking of treads about 30cm deep so it will be comfortable to walk on.

  • Wooden barrel sauna next to a garden path under construction, leading towards a black house. A pile of grass turf is on the lawn in the foreground.
  • Wooden walkway under construction leading to a barrel sauna, surrounded by greenery. Building materials and tools are scattered on the grass.
You make a drawing of the vangstyckena on graph paper in a suitable scale.

If I make the steps 150mm high and 367mm long, I get 8 steps. (Then there will be some overhang and spacing but it shouldn't affect the calculation.)
But my treads are 35mm high, will the wedge then be 114mm X 367mm?
20% incline.

20% slope.
Yes, the bottom step will be like that, the rest are 150mm high. But I think the steps are too deep for that height.

It will be fine, don't get too hung up on the depth, you'll get used to it once you start using the stairs.
