I am renovating the entire upper floor with a new layout and waterborne underfloor heating and have encountered a problem.
During the renovation, I discovered that the staircase leans significantly toward the chimney stack. It leans about 10mm across the width of the staircase (see image). The beam structure feels solid and doesn't flex much at the staircase. The staircase's settlement was not something we observed before the renovation. The staircase is in an extension built in 1994.
What would you do? I see the following options:
1. Leave the construction as it is and just shim/add to level the beam structure. It has held up for nearly 30 years anyway.
2. Try to straighten the staircase by placing a column in the inner curve of the staircase and a new full beam between the column and the heart wall. (Drawn in green in one of the images)
Or do you see any other options?
