Old thread, so I'm writing mainly for those seeking more suggestions for solutions.
We live in a wooden house from the 80s and have determined that the floor joists are too weak. The cabinets rattle when walking in the kitchen. As a solution, we have stabilized the floor joists using I-beams. The crawl space is divided into two sections, which have each been stabilized separately. Pillars have been built up, and on top of them, the I-beams have been shimmed up against the floor joists. Large jacks are good to have on hand for this. The solution has worked very well.
