Hi!

Just got a house and embarked on a first project. Built a 15-step staircase down the slope towards the water, and it turned out pretty nice. However, one small thing I'm not entirely satisfied with is that it wobbles a bit in the middle.

I have buried foundation posts both at the top and bottom, and several wooden posts it rests on. However, it's difficult to place a foundation post where it wobbles because the height is over a meter above the ground right there (steep slope right there, of course). Does anyone have a simple way to make it not move so much sideways? I've considered putting boards in a cross or something similar but unsure what would have the best effect.

The staircase is built with two stringers where I've screwed wooden pieces from the inside that the steps rest on and are screwed to, i.e., a very simple construction.

If you only have support at the beginning and end, it should work with a cross equivalent to 1/3 of the staircase's length in the middle of the staircase's length. Alternatively, double crosses that are attached in the middle of the stringers and at each end.

In picture would help.

Where you have posts, you can place diagonal braces, from down on one side to up on the other side.

If it sways between the posts, you can try taking, for example, a decking board 22x95 or whatever you have lying around and screwing it diagonally under the stringers. If the diagonal board flexes in the middle, place a nog and fix the diagonal board there between the stringers.
