Splicing technique for floor joists
Hello,
is there any good technique for splicing beams like 45x220 with reasonable strength? Naturally, you can half-split a piece at both ends and join them with screws, but I just want to check if there's a good "carpenter's trick."

Yes, hole plates are of course an option. The problem is that it's about the stringers for a longer outdoor staircase up a hill, so hole plates will cause issues with the installation of the steps and are quite unsightly. I'm looking for a technique that provides a smooth wooden surface.Forbo said:
