Hello,
I am drawing an extension for the summer house. The extension will be a volume with a pent roof with a slope of 14 degrees and 5.5 meters in height on the highest side. My problem now is the span. There will be no trusses, only joists. As far as I know, joists are a maximum of 4.5 meters long (possibly 5 meters). I was planning to use 225mm joists and the distance between the supports/walls is 5.2m. With the roof overhang, the joists will be about 5.7m long. Is it possible to splice so that the structure becomes sufficiently strong? I don’t want any intermediate support.

It's possible to order longer boards! Then there's the option of light beams, kertobeam etc., your local timber dealer can probably advise on the matter. :)

You can buy lumber that is 5.40m at the lumberyard and then you can cover the distance between the supports. The last piece on the eaves overhang can be spliced with joist hangers or similar without any problem.

Are you sure that 220mm lumber is enough for this roof though? Regular lumber generally doesn't cover the span you are talking about.

I checked span widths and saw that for snow zone 2 the maximum span is 4m for 220mm roof joists. Is Kerto a good alternative? How is the price compared to regular joists and light joists?

Hello. You can order LVL beam 63x200 (KERTO) and place at s=900, provided you have a felt or metal roof. If you want tiles or concrete tiles, you need to go up a dimension.
