I am building a swing set for my grandchild who is over 2 years old. I will use my cherry tree where I hang a beam in a tree crotch and two beams at the other end with two post shoes in the ground. As an overhead beam, I have bought a 95 x 95 beam and two beams as side supports, 70 x 70. Unfortunately, I measured a bit wrong and cut off too much, so the 70 x 70 supports became too short. Can I splice with flat iron or similar, or do I need to buy new beams?

  • A half-built swing set in a garden using a cherry tree branch, with a ladder nearby and wooden beams on the ground.
  • A-frame swing set under construction with wooden beams and a ladder, supported by a cherry tree, on a grassy yard with playground equipment nearby.
Buy new ones, hard to get a proper seam there.

Why take a chance when it comes to safety?
The swing should stay there for a few years, so buy new supports and use the others for something else.
