sparsely boarded roof rafters for gypsum ceiling
Thanks for all the answers!
I will think about the ceiling gypsum/regular gypsum.
I would prefer a completely smooth ceiling, but it's a lot of work with spackling and sanding...
I don't think there's end-grooved 21x70 or similar. At least not that I've seen? Maybe end-grooved raw wood?
But it can be easily cut and joined on the trusses...
The garage is connected with a slightly older garage, which in turn is connected to the house.
This older garage has no fire protection whatsoever against the residential house.
The wall against the old garage I will have at least 2 layers of gypsum + OSB.
I might settle for 1 layer of gypsum on the ceiling, but I will place a sheet of stone wool at the bottom and then loose wool on top of that... in the inter-floor space.
I don't know if I should classify it as a garage, more of a man cave
There will be doors, and cars in there... but also sofas, a beer fridge, etc... and a projector like a drive-in movie theater... so the fire safety might not need to be the same as in a workshop...

Good luck Camaro!camaro1969 said:thank you for all the answers!
I'm going to think about that with ceiling drywall/standard drywall.
I prefer a completely smooth ceiling but it's a lot of work with plastering and sanding...
I don't think there is any end-matched 21x70 or similar. at least not that I've seen? maybe end-matched råspont?
but it's easy enough to cut to length and join at the trusses...

the wall towards the old garage, however, I will have at least 2 layers of drywall + OSB.
I might be satisfied with 1 layer of drywall on the ceiling, but place a sheet of mineral wool at the bottom and then loose-fill insulation on top... in the inter-floor space.

And yes, there is råspont with end-matching, that was what I had in mind. It tends to be relatively inexpensive too. I've never seen regular 21mm thick boards with only end-matching.
thanks! need some good luck...
BUT, maybe I should still run electricity, etc., in the ceiling. does the installation dimension for boxes, etc., work with 21 sparse + 12 gypsum (or is it 13mm)
a total of 33-34 mm then?

For 28 mm sparse + 13 mm plaster = 41 mm
This box has depth = 40 mm:
