Spackling between ceiling tiles, is it possible?

I want to wallpaper the ceiling in our hallway. Today there are ceiling tiles which means quite wide "gaps" between them. I guess I can't just fill in between the tiles with filler, what should I use to fill in before?

What kind of ceiling tiles are they? Picture?

Sounds like a regular ceiling gypsum board.
