Hello.

I have removed old water pipes in the basement and also the old channel they were in. As can be seen in the pictures, the wall in the basement was carved at the same time as the pipe channel was built.

The wall is some kind of mesh and then plaster on the actual wall.

My idea is to sand the edges and then fill in where the channel was.

The question is with what?

Would you wiser ones suggest using Husfix or something similar, or is there perhaps a cheaper alternative that would suffice?

  • Basement ceiling with removed old water pipes and unfinished edges needing repair where the channel used to be. Textured wall and ceiling detail visible.
  • Damaged basement wall with removed water pipes, showing exposed plaster and rough, chipped edges from dismantled channel. Repair advice sought.
  • Close-up of a basement wall corner showing removed old pipe channel, with exposed plaster, wire mesh, and rough edges needing filling.
Husfix becomes very hard and heavy when it sets, so I wouldn't use it. The risk is that it will fall down in a big chunk if you don't get good adhesion. I would sand it down and apply regular medium filler in three layers, then sand and paint.
