Hello!

I'm new to this fantastic forum, a Swede who moved to Belgium two years ago. We are now about to build our first house. The Belgian houses are 90% built of brick, inner and outer brick with insulation in between.

We don't want such a house and have fortunately found a Belgian company that builds in a more Scandinavian manner; www.micasa.be

Their technique involves walls made of grooved solid wood, imported from Norway and dried. 56mm inner walls, a bit thicker for outer walls. For outer walls, there is of course also insulation and an outer facade (wood or brick). All wiring is run through the floor and up through drilled channels in the walls. It seems very professional, we've visited some of their houses, spoken with the owners, and there are only positive comments.

No standard houses, all are designed according to the customer's wishes, high basic standard, including solid oak wood floors. However, you can get exactly the materials you want. Reasonable prices despite this.

However, I've never heard of this building technique before.

I wonder - has anyone here seen anything similar?

Solid tongue and groove wood in exterior walls used to be standard here in the past. Our house was built in 1930. The exterior walls and the main interior wall are made of solid wood. Vertical tongue and groove planks approximately 45mm thick.

However, without insulation, which you are apparently supposed to get.
