I would like to build a staircase like one of those in the images below and am wondering if anyone knowledgeable here has advice on the approach? It's too high to make as a solid piece, so I assume that what you should do is first cast the actual stair section (dashed in my sketch) and then build walls around it and plaster them? That way, you could get a staircase like the one with the white side. How they made the concrete staircase is a bit harder for me to figure out as it doesn't look like there's any seam between the stair section and the wall - and it seems a bit unreasonable that it was cast as a solid "block"?

  • Sketch of staircase construction showing concrete steps and walls labeled "trappstycke (betong)" and "rå vägg betong/putsad gipsvägg.
  • A modern interior with wooden walls and ceiling, large glass windows, and a minimalist concrete staircase leading to an upper level.
  • Modern staircase with white side and dark tiled floor, leading upwards alongside a plain white wall in a minimalist interior space.
I might be using the term "trappstycke" incorrectly, but what I mean is a concrete staircase like the one below, but closed off with a concrete wall/plastered gypsum wall instead of wood.
