I have started renovating the exterior stairs and have removed the old tiles to eventually replace them with new ones.
The reason is that nothing was done properly, so a large number of tiles came loose last winter. As you can see, for example, the mortar and tiles were applied directly on at least four layers of paint on the risers. When I reached the front door, it turned out that cement grout was placed directly on top of the mineral wool insulation. This grout, of course, had cracked long ago.
Now I have cleared away all loose material and what remains is a substantial gap between the stairs and the wall. Under the door on the wall, there is tretex with wooden battens behind it. Some of the tretex is already gone.
Now the question is what I should fill the gap with instead and how I should prevent water from flowing down between the stairs and the wall. Does anyone have any good ideas?

You need to seal the entire floor, as I understand it, so moisture doesn't travel in the concrete. We sealed the gap but it didn't help.

Hi!
Have you sealed it yet and if so, how did you address the problem?
