Hello,

We have a house built in 1970 consisting of a wooden frame with a brick facade. When we renovated the kitchen, we took down the walls to install insulation (internal walls), electricity, OSB, and drywall. We also took the opportunity to replace the plastic on the outer wall with much thicker age-resistant (50 years) plastic, even though the original still looked good. We chose plastic since the current construction has served its purpose well.

Since drywall should be screwed every 20 cm and requires no studs as long as there is OSB to attach to, a lot of screws ended up in the middle of the plastic/insulation without studs. We used 40 mm screws for studs and 30 mm for non-studs, meaning that screws without studs stick out about 8 mm into and through the plastic.

The question now is whether this is a problem. Will the screws rust away? Will the plastic serve any purpose at all? Do we have a higher risk of moisture being trapped in the wall?
