Hi! We have just started renovating an apartment in Stockholm from around 1954 and got a small look into a wall facing the stairwell. Inside the wall, there is something that looks like sawdust.
Is this some type of insulation that was common at that time?

Is there any risk that such material could contain asbestos?

What is the best way to repair a small hole in such a wall?

The plan is to skim coat the walls when all the holes are fixed. Under the old skim coat, there is wallpaper.. Should a special primer be used in such a case before skim coating?

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips!

  • An exposed wall section revealing wood shavings or sawdust used as insulation inside an apartment wall, with surrounding plaster.
  • Close-up of an old plaster wall with exposed insulation material resembling sawdust, featuring peeling paint and worn wallpaper at the edges.
Welcome to Byggahus!
It is träullit (cement and wood wool boards, harmless!)
