I'm sketching a bit on an extension of our house. Among many options, there's one with opposing shed roofs at slightly different levels. The idea is that the construction should be about 4.8 x 9.9 meters, with the two shed roofs having spans of 3.83 m for one and about 6 meters for the other. It's open all the way up, so regular trusses, which I'm reasonably familiar with, are not an option. Various solutions with beams seem likely, but I have a question that someone might be able to answer. Would it work to place support beams crosswise, i.e., 4.8 m long with a spacing of 60 cm, and then place the roof beams on top of these? My thought is that it wouldn't bear too much load at the top with that solution, but I'm not sure if it's a viable option. Anyone?

There are already "ready-made" solutions for this. I think you should talk to a designer, so you can calculate snow load, angles, and type of insulation.
It doesn't cost much at all and the result will be more enjoyable. Even if you plan to do the work yourself, you'll have a shopping list, drawing, and building permit documentation all in one document.
It's easy to get tangled up in all the angles, thermal bridges, loose fill, dew points, moisture barriers, and whether or not to include ventilation.
