Hello!
I have an old house with a mansard roof and I'm planning to add an extension according to the pictures.

It is open to the ridge on the upper floor, and the collar beams run through the room.
I planned to make the roof construction in the extension like this Diagram depicting a house roof with a gable design and collar ties, illustrating a planned truss structure for an extension maintaining an open ceiling style.
with a ridge beam, as it will also be open to the ridge, keeping the same style as the old house.

There will be some of the old trusses that need to be cut where the extension will be added.
I assume they are connected with a beam in the "valley." The question is what to do with the old collar beams. Will they be needed for the structure's stability? Can they be removed, or do I need to place a sturdier beam at the bottom of the first new truss that aligns with the old house wall, which can be used to attach the old collar beams?
Anyone with experience in something similar?

Seek help from a constructor. This is not something a DIY enthusiast should be involved with. You need to support the existing roof trusses with a couple of strong glulam beams or steel. Get help from a skilled roof truss constructor nearby and they can easily handle this.

Yep,
I will not do the work myself. I just want to keep track of what I order and what I get.
I want to have the construction somewhat clear to me before I apply for a building permit and request bids.
