At the hardware stores, there are signs by the formplywood stating that they do not cut formplywood for safety reasons.

What is the issue? I need to cut a few pieces, do I need to protect myself more than with regular cutting?

Increased risk of sharp shards causing injuries. Gloves and goggles recommended.

Formplyfa can have very sharp edges and splinters.

Could be due to the tensions in those boards. If the hardware store only has a table saw, there is a high risk that the board will pinch the saw blade or "kick" the board back.

Can it occur if you have a saw with a riving knife?

Yes, that can happen. You can insert shims into the saw cut as you cut the board. That way, the board shouldn't pinch the saw blade.

Buy from a reputable place that can and is allowed to cut is my advice. Unlikely that there will be problems with a good saw.
