Finally gained access to the townhouse! 🥳🥳
The previous owner has removed the trellis next to the stairs, which means we're missing fall protection. They've also painted the stairs black, which isn't the color we want.
Our initial thought is to either buy ready-made handrails and trellis from Lundbergs or replace the current black-painted beams in the ceiling (technical term?) and screw in beams ~45-70 x 30-45mm.
Regardless, we want to remove the current beam along the ceiling opening.
We're debating whether it's possible that the stair ceiling's construction rests on this beam. Is it possible?

🌹 Congratulations on the house!
I'm a bit concerned when you say that the previous owner removed the safety guard in the stairs. Isn't there a law that such a guard MUST BE PRESENT precisely to prevent accidents?
🌹I read a bit on the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building, and Planning's website (the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's Building Regulations, BBR, section 8 Safety in use) and I perceive it as that it MUST BE THERE. If that's the case, perhaps the previous owner should cover the cost of a safety guard. I don't know the exact requirements, but it might be worth checking. Good luck with the new house!
