I live in a cooperative apartment (built in 1934) and I'm in the process of renovating my kitchen/kitchenette. When I tore down the old kitchen, large parts of the plaster fell off like sand, and I've now removed most of what was loose. Since large parts of the plaster are holding well, I'm not too keen on continuing to knock it down and then put up drywall, so I thought I would only repair the parts where plaster is missing.

I was thinking of using gypsum plaster (gypsum naturgips) because I've heard it's easier to work with. After searching around a bit on the forum, I've understood that you shouldn't use cement-lime plaster if the wall is plastered with lime mortar. Does gypsum plaster work with both? (I don't know what kind of plaster it is today...)

Feel free to offer any tips if you think there's a better way to solve it!

  • Damaged plaster wall with wooden lath exposed, showing patches of old and missing plaster, and painted areas needing renovation in a 1934 apartment kitchen.
looks like it will be a completely different solution anyway.

will line up with battens to the same level as the plaster - where it's missing - and then screw drywall boards on top of everything
