Hello everyone,

We are doing a minor renovation in our apartment.

We are going to replace doors (including door frames) in several rooms. In the living room, we don't have a door but have removed an old door frame that was there (without a door). We opened it up all the way, so an old wooden panel was attached to the door frame that went all the way to the ceiling.

We are wondering how to best hide this cable when we install the door surround + door trim? Is it best to just reroute it? Or can you hide it behind the door trim in a smooth way? All tips are welcome.

We have decided not to build up a new wall, so door surround around the entire opening + door trim all the way up and around.

Thanks in advance!

  • Wall opening with exposed cable and removed door frame, ready for door casing installation. White cable runs vertically along the wall, near ceiling.
  • Wall with exposed cable and removed doorframe in an apartment renovation, showing a cable outlet and bare wood where the frame was.
With the wall side open, you could rout a conduit with FK so that you get a completely concealed installation. Difficulties may arise in the ceiling as the pipe outlet would need to be moved closer to the wall side.

The line going downward could also be placed in a conduit to make it concealed. However, it may be tricky with the transition to the surface-mounted cable, so you need to install a cable in the conduit up to the switch.

The cable type must not be EKRK if it is installed concealed. In that case, the cable must be changed to, for example, EXQ.

It will be difficult to make it look nice with the existing cables. Expect that they will need to be replaced no matter what you do.
