Hi! I was just wondering in general if you can build up a fireplace insert but dress it to look like a tiled stove? Maybe a bit of an odd question...

  • A tiled stove with a fire burning inside, surrounded by floral wallpaper. A red fire extinguisher is on the right and a coffee table with a candle is in front.

If you find a wood stove that fits inside a tiled stove shell and it works with the installation instructions, then. Otherwise, there are ready-made faux tiled stoves that are essentially wood stoves.

There shouldn't be any problem.
In principle, you can build any "shell" around a stove insert.

What is a tiled stove shell?
If you're thinking of a real tiled stove, it's quite special with smoke channels that go up and down and up again inside.
But no one is inserting an insert into an old traditional tiled stove, and that's not what you meant either.

Yes, exactly, a masonry stove has an interior in the form of smoke channels, but the shell can of course be built without this. I called it a "kakelugnsskal."

But it must be easier to buy a modern fake kakelugn if you're not going to have the real thing anyway.
