Working on the stairs at home and have some questions about this edge that appears when you remove those ugly laminate boards that were glued on top. Should I plane it down and then fill it?
I want a smooth surface since the stairs will be painted white...

Wooden staircase step with visible edge and cracks after removing laminate, questioning if it should be planed and filled for painting.

Wooden staircase under renovation, showing a corner edge where laminate has been removed. A blue tool is visible in the background.

Thanks in advance!

do you plane off the edge.

But it's probably a stair nosing, kind of like a molding? Can't you just remove it?
