I have saved(?) a larger amount of timber from ongoing renovations. It used to be part of a bathroom from before, so the wood is brushed with asphalt on certain sides. In some cases just superficially and sometimes a couple of millimeters thick.

Since it has rather large dimensions and good quality otherwise, I would like to recycle it for something else, but need to remove the asphalt layer first. What is the most suitable way to do this? Scrape as much as possible manually with some tool (what?) and then use an electric planer? Anyone have a suggestion on what I can try?
