Hi!

There is a discussion going on at home about renovating our indoor staircase. After a visit from a floor sander, it was determined that it is covered with some form of stair renovation kit that he deemed difficult to make look nice. His suggestion was that we should tear off the stair renovation kit and that he would sand down the old staircase underneath instead.

Now to the question, how on earth do I remove the stair renovation kit? It seems to be glued. Especially the risers, I really have no idea how to get them off; there’s nothing directly to pry against. What suggestions do you have?

Hi
Post a picture, I think it's easier to get responses then.

Don't know how well it shows.

  • Wooden staircase with visible knots and light reflections on the surface.
  • A close-up of wooden surfaces with different textures and colors, possibly part of a flooring or furniture project.
  • Wooden staircase steps showing grain and knots.

The stair noses seem to be nailed so start there. When they are removed, you can see the edge of the risers.
