Hi, I have an attic apartment with visible beams. These were fireproof painted in 1990 (transparent with clear varnish) and now a few years have passed, and they are starting to turn milky white and ugly. How can you remove the paint most easily? I have tested with chemical paint remover, but it became gooey and blotchy, hard to remove. Does anyone have experience with another product or method that works better?

Then another question. I have cleaned a room after water damage with ozone, and it resulted in a strange sweet smell afterward, we have aired it out and aired it out, but the smell comes back. We suspect that the ozone reacted with the fireproof paint in some way. Has anyone had similar experiences, or could it be due to something else?

Why fireproof paint wood surfaces in a villa? Wood is combustible, yes, but wood surfaces are fully approved in a small house. Even regarding load-bearing structures, the charring rate of the wood is slow enough that the load-bearing capacity can often be maintained for 30 minutes. I'm just confused about why fireproof paint was chosen.

The question should probably be addressed to a painter/painting company. But one way might be to heat the paint. It should then swell and as it swells, it should reasonably come off better if you scrape it. Test in a small area with a heat gun and scrape?

Yes, ozone is very reactive, that's why it's used. But it usually breaks down unpleasant odors, not creates them.
