Hello!
I'm in the process of building a new fence and will also be adding a couple of gates. The problem is that there are broken hinge fittings that I want to remove without cracking the posts. In 2 of them, there are something that look like weld plugs, and in the other 2 there are bolts remaining, but which have broken off a bit inside.
So my question is, do you have any good suggestions on how to remove these?

Best regards, Manne

Drill....

Weld on a loop. Heat and pull out.

Do not heat, the stone may crack.
Drilling is a nuisance, make sure to start in the middle and try to drill straight from the beginning. Start with a smaller drill, 5mm might be appropriate. If the drill comes against the stone, it can easily become dull on the edge, but there are new ones available.

Okay, maybe better to cool down then to get the järnet moving so that it becomes easier to pull out.

Depending on how it looks, I would probably try welding a loop. I don't think the risk of it cracking is high, but to be safe, let it cool down slowly. However, it might be difficult to get a weld seam if it's rusty.

Rust is not a major problem if you're using a pin, but if the break is below the surface, it's not possible to weld it.
