Hello, our farm was built when farmhands and maids were abundant. This means there were no machines, and everything had to be carried, so it didn't matter if you placed posts wherever you thought necessary. In the barn, I want to remove some posts so I can bring in wagons or at least some equipment. Here, they placed a "beam" between one of the long sides, which additionally has two posts and provides upward support. It's not a huge beam but a thicker "slana." However, it serves a function. Removing it seems unwise, but how to replace it with something economically sensible? Should one weld something together and put it there instead? The barn was built in 1898 entirely of wood. The span is about 10m.
I don't know how it looks, but often you had a few tons of hay in the loft, so now it might be able to be removed.
Will take some pictures when the light is sufficient. Beam or slana - something in between. There is no floor above this part, it's open up to the ridge. There have been animals here sometime, but not in modern times. What is modern time anyway? The last 50 years?
