I saw on Silvan bygg that they were selling "real" parquet, i.e., loose, solid strips. Does anyone know if it is possible with a normal amount of handiness to lay a parquet floor yourself, or is it reserved for the professionals? Sure, standard parquet is OK but it would still be cooler to lay a herringbone parquet yourself...
The same idea has struck me. I don't want lamella parquet but real stave parquet (laid in a herringbone pattern).
I have searched online for some installation instructions, but found nothing, so if anyone on the forum knows where to find information, I would be happy.

I think it's incredibly difficult - I would never take on a real herringbone parquet. Just a few degrees off, and you're done for...
A neighbor of mine had one laid on their slab. They placed the wood pieces in some sort of rubber compound that sets quite quickly, so there's not really room for mistakes. On the other hand, it was quite expensive - I think it was over 1000 SEK/sqm, so maybe that could be the right motivation to try it yourself. But it turned out beautiful...oh my.

If anyone is still interested, I can now, after some research, recommend literature on the subject. The publisher Liber releases a series of educational materials intended for those attending vocational training programs in high school, and there is a title called "Bygg/Golvläggning, Gl6 Trä- och laminatgolv" which provides fairly detailed installation instructions for solid wood floors, laminate floors, and also herringbone parquet, etc. Costs 167 pix. There are also titles in the same series about wet rooms, carpets, tiles, subfloors, etc.
Of course, it's interesting. Throw in more info or is it this book you mean. A bit more expensive than the price you mentioned...

It seems to be the same book (or actually it's a thicker booklet...) but if you go to the publisher's website instead, you can order the book for a hundred less. Go to http://www.liber.se, then "shop online" and "search title", scroll down to and click on construction and then choose "craft trades" on the right. Then a list of many great, useful titles will appear.

I have very handy friends (father & son) who laid a 'real' parquet floor. It looked really nice when it was finished - but now, after almost ten years, they are bringing in a professional to redo the floor. They regretted struggling so insanely with the floor - it is much harder than you think - is their conclusion.
It might be something to consider. There may be other things in the house you can put energy into.
