Hello, planning to frame for an attic in an outbuilding. Planning to insulate so the studs should be around 250mm.
Now to the question - what is best from a strength perspective (roughly the same price):
195+45 or 170+70?
Should the wider (taller) stud be placed underneath? Do you screw and glue the studs together?

70x170 is slightly better. If the underlying rule is sufficient for load-bearing capacity (depends on span and load), it is enough to screw the overlay. Otherwise, both gluing and screwing are required.
