There are countless threads about basement walls discussing what's right and wrong, etc.

I am currently in the process of clearing the basement of all organic matter and almost all plaster. I am just scraping off the loose parts with a crowbar, and for the harder parts, I'm using a pneumatic chisel hammer, which is working quite well. I will remove all the plaster on walls facing the foundation and then partway up the interior walls of the basement to dry them out from soil moisture.

I've understood that many people replaster their basements, but isn't that a massive job?? It must smell quite a bit and get humid as well, right? You can't just crank up the heat and then plaster because the plaster would dry too quickly and crack... I'm considering exposing the concrete blocks, possibly evening out the joints, and then painting with suitable paint. The nicest part of our basement will be the laundry room, so maybe I’ll plaster that.

Best regards,
