Put a row of marble tiles on existing tiles with which adhesive?

Hello,
I am going to install marble tiles above the sink where there are already tiles. I plan to place it on the existing tiles. I understood that tile adhesive (white) can be used. I wonder if it can be made even simpler with something like mounting adhesive? The marble slabs are W x H x D = 30 x 50 x 1 cm. There will only be a single row of tiles, i.e., 50 cm high, against the sink (marble). Therefore, my thought was that it can be made very easily with mounting adhesive (and it won’t add much thickness). Does this seem unwise?

All thoughts are welcome, as my knowledge of this consists of several hours of Googling, and zero times actually doing it...
