Professionally done work?

Hello.

My father-in-law had a craftsman at home in his garage to lay tiles. However, he belongs to the old school who doesn't like to complain. I have put myself in a bit of an uncomfortable position where we have differing opinions on how work should be done. I'm attaching a picture of the work and wanted to check with you if you would have paid for the work without complaining.

I guess you're thinking about the absence of a manhole cover/drain grate. I must say that it was a very nice round shape he achieved in the tiles.

Feels like you could take out the angle grinder and grind around the drain so you can glue on a new grate.

Will the drain be visible after furnishing? If not, I would leave it as it is. I even think it's quite a cool solution.

Maybe I'm too sensitive. Sure, it's just a garage.. But I like the same "level" on the floor if you're going to place things.

I would have complained. Admittedly, it was a pretty cool solution, but it's certainly unconventional and impractical. If the craftsman had made such a solution on his own, I would have questioned it. How long will it be before someone steps into the hole and falls?

It might be the picture that is misleading but aren't there significant level differences on the floor?
