Problem with Centros product...or am I doing something wrong?
Is there anyone here who is an expert or at least has experience with Centro's waterproofing products who can give some tips?
Yesterday afternoon from 17-19 (i.e., about 18-20 hours ago) I waterproofed my new laundry room with Centro's products TM#F and TM#2K.
I believe I followed Centro's (admittedly somewhat unclear, but still) instructions to the letter. So it should have been done correctly.
Since it's a laundry room that doesn't need to be fully covered with foil, I cut 20 cm wide strips of the TM#F, i.e., 10 cm on the wall and 10 cm over the floor and glued these with TM#2K according to the instructions with minimal cove.
The foil on the floor is intended to be laid once these "strips" are in place and have dried sufficiently.
When I checked the result from a distance today, everything looked fine and as it should.
But - upon closer inspection, I noticed that the sheet was a bit loose at one of the bases.
I fiddled a bit there, and the more I fiddled, the more the foil came loose until I eventually had the entire strip in my hand, meaning it wasn't attached at all.
Now, when I look at the floor, under where the foil was, almost all the TM#2K remains there and almost none on the foil. It's almost as if the surface of the foil is a bit greasy and nothing sticks there, think of a Teflon pan.
On the walls, it's somewhat better, although the foil almost just as easily comes off there too.
So on the floor, there's now a 1-2 mm thick layer of semi-dried TM#2K that, when pressed with a finger, smears, that's how moist the product still is there.
Questions:
* Has too short a time passed, is the product not dry enough yet? But since tiling according to Centro should be able to start after 24 hours (or less), shouldn't the product be fully cured by now?
* Shouldn't a two-component product have dried more/faster in this time?
* Do you think there's simply something wrong with the TM#2K I bought?
* I prepared the product according to the instructions, but it still became very jelly-like in its consistency, almost like thick chocolate pudding or like pannacotta. Is it supposed to be like that? It feels like a slightly more "pliable mix" would adhere/dry better.
* What do you think - Should I tear everything off and scrape all the TM#2K away now and start over? I'm thinking that if something is wrong and it continues to dry anyway, it will be (significantly?) harder to do this later. So far it's relatively easy to scrape off the still moist TM#2K, even though where it has dried on the wall it takes some of the substrate with it.
Centro also claims that their product should have an open time of about 7-8 hours. My mix was about the same consistency for about 2 hours, then it quickly became noticeably stiffer, and after about 30 minutes, it had stiffened enough that nothing could be picked up on either roller or brush. That is, about 2.5-3 hours of open time - why did it happen with my mix?
Another thing that puzzles me is that where there is a thicker layer of TM#2K and where it is exposed, the membrane has heavily cracked as it dried, is that normal?
Will it also crack under the foil the day the membrane intends to dry, and what does that mean for the tightness?
I have used Kiilto's products before and did not experience the same issues with them.
So is it me or the product that's at fault in this case? 😉
Grateful for all (positive) input, thanks in advance!
PS. The jar of TM#2K is newly bought and has a shelf life of almost another year.
