Hi. Not sure if this is the right forum. My parents changed the windows in the house last winter. After the snow disappeared, one of the steps on the outdoor staircase started to "peel". It's on the front edge and the stone is releasing more and more, the sand is becoming more visible.
The people who installed the windows used the staircase as support, but it wasn't much. I brought it up with those who replaced the windows. He came and looked at the stairs.
According to him, there's something wrong with the stairs from before. That it had been repaired previously (my parents have lived in the house for 16 years without knowing it).
He mentioned that moisture has come in under the stairs and that there's some "finsand" that has absorbed the moisture. That moisture has gone under the stairs and it started to crack when it got cold. Not sure if that's true. He says many others have had the same problem.
I find it strange that it happens just after they worked around the stairs? My parents have lived there for 16 years after all.
So I don't know if they damaged the stairs or if his theory is correct? Are there others who have experienced the same issue?
Is it possible to repair the stairs?
