I have replaced part of the main pipe from the basement up to the entry level. The main pipe was inside the wall, which has left a big hole.

The idea is to cover the hole on one side, but I don't want to enclose the new/old pipe on the other side which is still in and partially in the wall.

How should I proceed in the simplest way? I have about 8-10cm depth to work with.

  • A large hole in a wall exposing a newly installed pipe, with a measuring tape across for reference.
Assuming it's the side we see that you want to close. I would have chipped off the plaster over a larger area than the hole. Embedded a net fastened with screws or clamps, plaster net or coarser if you have it, and gradually filled it in with repair mortar. Finally, plaster the surface to match the current wall.

Yes, that sounds like a sensible solution.

It is the side you see in the picture that I want to close, yes.

I had bricked it up with suitable stone and then polished it..

I see that there are brick blocks at 9cm. That's the idea for the height, but could use it for the depth instead. The question is if it will turn out well.

The direction you use the block doesn't matter in your case..

I did that, bought a 9 cm lecablock and a saw blade for leca that fit the reciprocating saw. Then I sculpted. Mortared it with a bit of mortar. And then plastered it.

These blades, although expensive, are grateful for cutting leca blocks. Otherwise, you can sacrifice a cheap handsaw or some old axe in the storage.

I was planning to paint that wall in a week.. you're supposed to wait a bit before painting on plaster, but maybe it doesn't matter on such a small area? Possibly paint another layer in a month?

  • Bag of Finja wall repair plaster with text "Laga Vägg" and illustration of a trowel, used for smoothing surfaces before painting.
